Baked Apple Chips

Apple chips are easy to bake at home, they taste delicious, and make a healthier after school snack than chips or cookies. Apple chips have fiber that help satisfy hunger until dinner is ready, and you'll feel good feeding a snack that's better for your kids that they actually want to eat too! Apple Chips can be eaten as is, dipped in a creamy yogurt dip, or even added to pancakes for an exciting breakfast option. I love how versatile they are!

I also love how portable they are! Apple chips make a delicious treat to send in the lunch box or take for a healthy snack option on a car trip, shopping trip, or even on a hike. They keep well and can easily be tucked inside a baggie to be enjoyed on-the-go.

How To Make Baked Apple Chips

To make homemade baked apple chips you just need your favorite apples, a baking sheet or two lined with parchment paper, and your oven preheated to 225°F. I like to toss the apples in some cinnamon sugar for that little extra somethin' somethin', but if you don't want any added sugar that is completely optional.

You do need to slice the apples thinly, so I recommend a mandoline slicer to tackle that task easily, but you can use a sharp knife too. I don't bother coring the apples. If you slice them with the core you get a nice star shape in the center the kids love. Just be sure to pick out any stubborn seeds as needed.

Once the apples are sliced, thinly place them in a bowl and toss them with a little cinnamon and sugar to coat lightly. Then lay the apples flat on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake in oven for 1 hour. After 1 hour turn over each apple slice and bake for another hour or until dried nicely.

Serve the baked apple chips with a french vanilla yogurt for dipping. For a more decadent treat you'll love my Apple Chips with Salted Caramel . When I want to keep it healthier with just a hint of decadence, I drizzle the yogurt with my Homemade Caramel Sauce. It tastes so good!

How To Make Baked Apple Chips

Ingredients

  • 2 Red Delicious, or your favorite apples, thinly sliced (I leave the core intact and use a Mandoline to slice the apples thinly)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Salted Caramel Sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 225°F degrees and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. I like to use the Parchment Sheets . They are so convenient!
  2. Place apple slices in a large bowl and toss with 1.5 teaspoons sugar & 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, trying to lightly coat the apples evenly. Place apples in a single layer onto Baking Sheets.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour and then turn each apple slice over and bake for an additional hour or until the apples are dried and the edges are curling. Remove from oven and cool completely on a wire rack .
  4. While the apples are baking you'll have plenty of time to make my Homemade Caramel Sauce Recipe. Serve the apples with the caramel sauce drizzled over french vanilla yogurt for a delicious after school snack your kids will love! Enjoy!
