Thanks to Lipton® Recipe Secrets Golden Onion, I was able to create this Skillet French Onion Soup Dip for our game day feast. I am so pleased with how this dip recipe came together! It is creamy, cheesy, and full of caramelized onion goodness, complimented by fresh herbs and a splash of red wine. It mixes up quickly with common ingredients and makes an impressive game day presentation!

To make this recipe heat 1/2 cup beef stock in a 10" skillet over medium heat and add in 1 envelope of Lipton® Recipe Secrets Golden Onion...

Stir to combine and dissolve the soup mix into the beef stock.

Mix in a tablespoon of red wine, a teaspoon of fresh thyme leaves, and 1/2 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper along with 1 (8 ounce) package of cream cheese and 1 cup of sour cream. Stir until heated through. About 2 minutes. Give it a taste and adjust seasonings as needed.

Top with 1 cup of shredded Gruyere cheese...

and put the skillet under the broiler for a minute or two until the cheese is melted and lightly browned. Remember to leave the oven door ajar while broiling and keep a close eye on it. When the cheese starts to bubble it will brown quickly! Remove from oven and top with 1" cubes of toasted baguette, fresh thyme leaves, and freshly chopped chives. Serve with french baguette slices and enjoy!

Skillet French Onion Soup Dip

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup beef stock
  • 1 envelope Lipton® Recipe Secrets Golden Onion Soup Mix
  • 1 tablespoon red wine
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese (or Swiss if you prefer)
  • Garnish: toasted baguette pieces, fresh thyme leaves, & freshly chopped chives
  • 1 French baguette, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat broiler on high.
  2. Heat 1/2 cup beef stock in a 10" skillet over medium heat and add in 1 envelope of Lipton® Recipe Secrets Golden Onion. Stir to combine and dissolve the soup mix into the beef stock.
  3. Mix in a tablespoon of red wine and a teaspoon of fresh thyme leaves, along with 1 (8 ounce) package of cream cheese and 1 cup of sour cream. Stir until heated through. About 2 minutes. Give it a taste and adjust seasonings as needed.

  5. Such a great idea! I love how rustic the skillet makes this dip look. I haven't seen the golden onion mix yet, but I did get the beefy one last week. I will look for the golden onion next time I'm at the store.
